Joby reunites with choreographer Christopher Wheeldon and designer Bob Crowley to present their third full-length narrative ballet for The Royal Ballet, a co-commission with American Ballet Theatre based on Mexican author Laura Esquivel’s best-selling novel, Like Water For Chocolate.
Adapted from the Shakespeare play, Joby's second full-length narrative collaboration with Christopher Wheeldon returns to its home at the Royal Ballet in ten performances, under Alondra de la Parra and Tom Seligman.
In a presentation by Queensland Performing Arts Centre, the Royal Ballet tours Christopher Wheeldon's acclaimed 2014 adaptation of Shakespeare's play, featuring a powerful score by Joby, to Brisbane's Lyric Theatre from 5-9 July 2017.
Chroma, Joby's first collaboration with Wayne McGregor, will be presented as part of a triple bill by its originating company, The Royal Ballet, in collaboration with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater in celebration of McGregor's tenth year as Resident Choreographer. The 2006 work is choreographed to original pieces by Joby alongside his arrangements of songs by The White Stripes. There are five performances from 12-19 November.
The company on whom Christopher Wheeldon created this acclaimed ballet adaptation of Shakespeare's play revives the work in fifteen performances from 12 April. Joby's score includes an onstage band composed of instruments from a variety of global folk traditions, creating a sound that is both new and timeless.
