Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is Christopher Wheeldon’s ballet adaptation of the beloved classic of children’s literature by Lewis Carroll. Christopher and Joby had worked together previously on Fool’s Paradise, On his commission by the Royal Ballet and National Ballet of Canada, Christopher approached Joby in late 2008 to write the music — the first new full-length narrative ballet score to be written for The Royal Ballet in over 20 years. Along with designer Bob Crowley and playwright Nicholas Wright, Christopher and Joby worked out a scenography on which Joby then based his development of the score, which took almost two years to write. The ballet premiered as a two-act piece in February 2011 and was then modified to three acts, with some changes to the score and choreography, in time for its second appearance at Covent Garden in … The work has been revived x times at CG, x at NBC and has entered the repertory of ballet companies worldwide, including x, x and x.
