A review of Joby’s arrangement of Purcell’s Chacony in G Minor, as premiered at Prom 41 on 14 August by the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Mark Wigglesworth, has surfaced in an issue of The Tablet of 20 August.
The piece, by Rick Jones, describes Joby’s new arrangement as,
“a reworking with bells and resonant percussion, creating an edgy, dreamlike backdrop. Bowed crotales cut like electronic feedback as Purcell emerged from the radio waves of history. The piece was a comment on the original, a modernist’s take, the canvas untouched, but the frame changed.”
